Your City. Your Charter. Your Vote.   Recently updated !

The City of Fort Lauderdale is considering amendments to its charter. The charter is like our city’s constitution and guides how the city is governed. It explains how decisions are made, who’s responsible for what, and how services like parks, roads, and public safety are provided. It outlines the roles of the mayor, city commissioners, and city manager, ensuring everyone works together to serve the community. It’s designed to keep everything running smoothly and fairly for residents like you.

Any changes to the charter must be approved by residents through a public vote. Your vote decides how our government works.

The City Commission approved changes to 21 sections of the City Charter which are reflected in 10 ballot questions. The language for each ballot question is linked below along with a description of the proposed changes.

CFLCA Commission District 1 Candidates Form

The Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations will host a District 1 Candidates Forum on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The forum will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Community Center, 3351 NE 33rd Ave.

Allison Meyers, President of the Broward League of Women Voters, will serve as moderator.

Residents are encouraged to submit questions for the candidates in advance. Candidates will not receive the questions prior to the forum. While every question will be reviewed, time constraints may prevent all submissions from being asked. Questions will be prioritized to provide a balanced and informative discussion.

This forum is designed specifically for the three candidates running in the District 1 Special Election. Please limit your questions to District 1 issues rather than citywide topics.
