Agenda February 11, 2014 *Join us for Neighbor Support Night*
Our regularly scheduled General Membership Meeting on February 11 2014 will coincide with the Neighbor Support Night co-sponsored by the Council and the City of Fort Lauderdale. Your members (yes invite them all to come) can meet face to face with the City Staff from various Departments (think Code Enforcement and Buildings Department). The event starts at 6:00 PM and runs till 8:30 PM and takes place in different places at City Hall. Parking will be tight so car pooling is advised. You can come at any time, have a bite to eat and bring your most pressing issue to the people who are responsible. For more information you can call Junia Robinson in Neighbor Support at 954 828 5289 or email her at [email protected].
The goal of Neighbor Support Night is to provide an opportunity for Fort Lauderdale’s neighbors to join together with their City to strengthen community ties, elevate public spirit, and build civic awareness in a fun, casual, exciting block party type of atmosphere.

Legislative Roundup
We are reinstituting a tradition at the Council this year. In the past we invited our State representatives to come and share with us the happenings at Tallahassee. Let’s hear what happened and what didn’t. The type and number of issues that affect our neighborhoods and require state legislation and/or funding would surprise you.
Here is the evening’s lineup.
Representative George Moraitis – District 93
Representative Gwyndolen Clark-Reed District 92
Representative Perry E Thurston, Jr District 94 (Invited)
Senator Maria Sachs – District 34
Senator Eleanor Sobel -District 33

Council Corner August 2013
At the August 13 2013 Council General Membership Meeting Representatives from All Aboard Florida will present their plans for starting passenger train service from Miami to Orlando including the proposed new train station in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
- Travel time: The new passenger rail service will transport passengers between downtown Miami and Orlando in approximately three hours.
- Schedule: All Aboard Florida will offer frequent, regularly scheduled passenger service throughout the day to answer mobility needs. Service will start in the early morning with last departures in the evening. All Aboard Florida is also determining tailored schedules for special events and venues.
Neighborhoods along the train tracks are concerned about increased noise and we are all concerned about issues of safety for pedestrians, cars and emergency vehicles. Representatives from the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization will discuss plans to apply for “Quiet Zones” along the route.
